If you are setting up the Sonos App on your Mac, you may encounter the message that computer could not be found or is not responding. This is usually related to the firewall settings on your Mac. This is a common problem that is faced with Mac users when they are trying to set up the Sonos on their Macs.
Please Check the steps below to see if your Mac OS X firewall is configured to work with Sonos.:
- Sonos does show desktop notifications, but it uses third-party Growl for notifications instead of the Mac's native notifications, which can be reviewed or collectively silenced. I'd suggest that this should be changed to use native OS X notifications.
- Has anyone upgraded to iOS 14.2 and now unable to access Apple Music via the Sonos app? Solved, but can’t delete this thread.
- Plug it in, turn it on, and open the app. Setting up, installing, and controlling your Sonos system is as easy as that. Sonos is committed to making your listening experience effortless, from setting up the first speaker to custom-tuning the fifth.
- Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy.
- If your computer is password protected, you will need to click on the lock at the bottom of the Security & Privacy window and enter the password for the Mac user’s account to unlock access to these settings.
- Click on the Firewall tab, and click Turn on Firewall if it’s not already turned on.
- Click on Firewall Options.
- Confirm that Stealth mode is not enabled.
- Click on the plus “+” sign and select Sonos from the Applications Folder. Press the Add button to add it.
- Make sure that Sonos is set to Allow incoming connections
As I said before, the link on the Sonos website for the PC and Mac version seems to have the wrong download links as of right now. The new S2 platform is compatible with the following products. If you have older Sonos devices, you’ll need to stick with the older app. The following speakers are compatible with the new Sonos app: One SL; One. Take listening to the next level with Sonos S2. This new version of the app enables higher resolution audio, with 24-bit processing and Dolby Atmos support. It also sports an improved design, better security, new features like saved room groups, and smarter software to keep your system up to date.
The steps above should resolve the problem that you may experience while trying to connect to Sonos via your Mac firewall. Please note that your Mac should be running OS X 10.7 OR greater.
